About the Artist

My name is Tanisha Shawna, and I am originally from Onion Lake Cree Nation. I now make my home in Vancouver, British Columbia, where I continue to grow both as an artist and as a woman deeply connected to my culture.

I have been dancing since I was a tiny tot, and through every step of my journey, our culture has been at the heart of who I am. From powwow grounds to family gatherings, I was raised in spaces where creativity, tradition, and expression were part of daily life. That upbringing shaped not only who I am, but also the way I approach my art today.

Beadwork came naturally to me. I first began creating pieces for myself and my family, never realizing how much it would grow into a passion that I would one day share with others. Over the years, beadwork became more than just an art form, it became a way for me to tell stories, to honor the teachings of my culture, and to create something lasting that others could carry with them.

I’ve learned to embrace the process. I don’t rush my work because every stitch and every bead has meaning. It’s not just about creating something beautiful; it’s about connection, storytelling, and respect. My beadwork reflects both the beauty of our traditions and my own style of sophistication.

Now, I am branching off and offering my work to those who are drawn to it. Every piece I create carries meaning, and it brings me so much joy to know that others can feel a sense of connection through something I’ve made. Each beaded design is a part of me, and it’s my hope that whoever wears or holds my work feels that same love and intention.

I can’t wait to share more of my work with you, and I look forward to connecting with people who value the love, dedication, and cultural grounding that goes into every piece. My journey as an artist is still growing, and I am excited to see where it leads as I continue to learn, create, and share what I love most.

Thank you for being interested in my work, and I truly look forward to connecting with you.
